Schapiro Training & Employment Program (STEP) is a workforce development agency that consists of 3 components: Supported Employment Program (SEP), Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program (PRP), Human Service Training (HST). The Supported Employment Program assists individuals with serious and persistent psychiatric disabilities secure and maintain employment in a competitive labor force. The Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program is an individualized, person-directed program that assists individuals with mental illness to develop, enhance and maintain psychiatric stability, social skills, independent living skills and access resources in order to live successful independent lives. Once an individual has successfully achieved these skills, they are connected to the Supportive employment program. The Human Services Training is a 14-week classroom based program that trains individuals with mental health /substance abuse diagnosis to work in the community in the human services field as peer counselors. HST provides a comprehensive curriculum that builds skills in counseling, documentation, human relations and case management. Upon completion of the course, individuals will receive a certificate from CCBC.
