Free vision screenings offered for veterans, spouses

Pike County News-Watchman - 5/5/2017

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (April 20, 2017) - Military Veterans Resource Center (MVRC) is offering free comprehensive eye exams from a local VSP® network doctor through a partnership with VSP Global® Eyes of Hope®, May 6-7 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. at 631 Central Center, Chillicothe.

Veterans and their spouses who fall within 200 percent of the federal poverty guidelines will qualify for a no-cost comprehensive eye exam and, if prescribed, new glasses, many of which can be made on the spot during the event. More complicated prescriptions will be sent to the VSPOne® Optical Technology Center for processing. Those prescriptions will be sent to MVRC and may be picked up at a later date.

Care will be provided on-board the VSP Mobile Eyes® clinic, outfitted with exam rooms, dispensaries with popular frame brands, and a finishing lab to make glasses on-site. Please call (740) 571-4555 to make an appointment. This program is not available for any item already covered by insurance, including government programs, or for anyone who's received care through a VSP program in the last year.

The Chillicothe VA Mobile Clinic will be signing veterans up for health care and MVRC will be hosting a BBQ cookout with family-friendly games both days. Other veterans groups will also be there.

Together with VSP network doctors, to date, VSP Global Eyes of Hope initiatives have provided access to no-cost eye care and eyewear for more than 1.3 million people in need. VSP is headquartered in Rancho Cordova, California, but has offices and an optical lab with 500 employees in Columbus. Learn more at www. globaleyesofhope.com.
