Joint Operation veterans event set for July 19 in Knox

Joint Operation, a free event to provide veterans and their families with a one-stop shop to access local resources and services, will be held 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.July 19, at the Jacob Building at Chilhowee Park in Knoxville.

The event is sponsored by the offices of U.S. Sen. Bob Corker, U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander, U.S. Rep. John J. Duncan Jr., Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero and Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett.

“Joint Operation is a one-stop shop to make it easier for veterans to get the help they need and will bring more than 70 organizations under one roof to answer questions and offer assistance,” Corker said. “We are truly inspired by how the community is coming together to help those who have served our country.”

Joint Operation is open to all Tennessee veterans and their families and will feature more than 70 agencies and organizations with information on a number of resources, including: VA claim assistance, vocational rehabilitation, education, employment, mental health, housing, legal assistance and much more.

The Knoxville Bar Association announced that a Legal Advice Clinic for Veterans will be held as part of Joint Operation to deal with legal issues including family law, landlord/tenant, bankruptcy, criminal defense, consumer protection, contract disputes, child support and personal injury.

Some of the other 70-plus organizations represented along with numerous veterans groups include the American Job Center, American Red Cross, Ben Atchley State Veterans Home, Disabled American Veterans – Chapter 24, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, Helen Ross McNabb Military Services, HonorAir Knoxville, James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Mountain Home, Smoky Mountain Service Dogs, Pellissippi State Community College, Maryville College, East Tennessee State University and the University of Tennessee.

The Jacob Building is located at 3301 E. Magnolia Ave., in Chilhowee Park, where Tennessee Valley Fair is held each September.
