Ceremony to honor veterans

Daily News - 6/6/2018

Two groups are coming together to honor local veterans this month, and the public is invited to attend.

A wreath-laying ceremony will be put on by the Captain Charles Duncan chapter of the Kentucky Sons of the American Revolution and American Legion Post 23 at 10 a.m.June 16 in the veterans section of Fairview Cemetery.

Lt. Gov. Jenean Hampton of Bowling Green will be the featured speaker.

The ceremony will honor women and men who have served in the U.S. military since the nation's birth.

"I want recognition for all veterans, especially the ones that gave their lives," said Malcolm Cherry, commander of American Legion Post 23.

After the ceremony, wreaths will be placed at the Pioneer, Mt. Moriah, St. Joseph and Bowling Green Gardens cemeteries.

"All gave some and some gave all, and we should honor them for it because they are the reason this country is the greatest," Cherry said.

The wreath-laying ceremony was moved to June this year to align with Flag Day and other patriotic holidays that are widely celebrated during the summer.
