Rosanne Arquette says her family has 'PTSD' after sister Alexis' death in 2016

The New York Daily News - 7/27/2018

July 27--The tragic death of actress Alexis Arquette continues to take a toll on her family.

Rosanna Arquette opened up Thursday about how the loss of her sister in September 2016 has been difficult for all of her loved ones.

"It's been fractured and hard since Alexis passed," Rosanna Arquette said on "Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen." "It's been really painful for all of us and we're all in PTSD, we are."

Alexis Arquette died from cardiac arrest at the age of 47, with HIV, bacterial endocarditis and cardiomyopathy listed as contributing factors, according to a death certificate. The film star had battled HIV for 29 years.

On Thursday's show, Rosanna Arquette, 58, also shared a touching annual tradition she had with Alexis.

"Well, every birthday -- July 28th will be her birthday that's coming up -- and we would go out to a special lunch just the two of us," the actress said, responding to a fan question. "That was a very special time, and we always had champagne."

Alexis Arquette was a transgender activist, and her older sister Patricia Arquette praised her shortly after her death for her commitment to bringing acceptance and understanding to the transgender community.

"Her career was cut short, not by her passing, but by her decision to live her truth and her life as a transgender woman," she said in a statement in September 2016. "Despite the fact that there are few parts for trans actors, she refused to play roles that were demeaning or stereotypical. She was a vanguard in the fight for understanding and acceptance for all trans people."

Alexis Arquette appeared in dozens of films over the course of her career, including roles in "The Wedding Singer" (1998) and "Pulp Fiction" (1994).

The Alexis Arquette Family Foundation was created after her death with the mission of providing medical and mental health support for LGBTQ+ youth.
