Cheshire County veterans eligible for vouchers at Hinsdale Farmers' Market

Keene Sentinel - 8/19/2018

Aug. 19--HINSDALE -- Every Sunday in September, Cheshire County military veterans will be eligible to receive $20 in vouchers for food purchases at the Hinsdale Farmers' Market on Main Street.

Modeled after a similar program in Rochester, the new initiative is a partnership between the Cheshire County Conservation District, the Hinsdale Farmers' Market and Cheshire Medical Center'sCenter for Population Health.

According to Amanda Littleton, district manager of the Cheshire Conservation District, the $20 per visit will be divided into $5 vouchers so that veterans can divide their purchases between vendors.

Littleton said the program isn't based on need. Rather, it is intended as a "thank you" to retired service members.

"We see it as a opportunity to show gratitude to the veterans in our region," she said. "It's also an opportunity to be able to support our farmers, so it's a win-win."

Participants must provide proof of veteran status, as well as Cheshire County residency. Valid forms of ID include a copy of a DD-214; a health care enrollee card from the Department of Veterans Affairs; and a New Hampshire driver's license with a veterans designation.

Vouchers are non-transferable and must be redeemed at the Hinsdale Farmers' Market by the end of September.
