Veterans Leadership Program earns state nonprofit association's 'Seal of Excellence'

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - 3/25/2019

March 25-- Mar. 25--Pittsburgh-based Veterans Leadership Program is the first veteran service organization in the state to receive the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organization's Seal of Excellence.

"Participating in this program and subjecting our organization to the independent review demonstrates the organization's commitment to excellence not only to the Veterans we serve, but also to our partners, stakeholders, funders and donors. It lets the community know that we take our responsibilities seriously," said Dr. Marcel Minutolo, chair of the VLP Board of Directors and Army veteran.

VLP received the designation after completing the basic standard requirements of the association's "Standards for Excellence" program.

Association staff evaluated VLP throughout 2018, looking at values such as honesty, integrity, fairness, respect, trust, responsibility and accountability.

VLP's CEO, Navy veteran Dr. Ben Stahl, encouraged other veteran-service nonprofits to consider being evaluated for the association's program.

"As veteran-serving nonprofit organizations, we must honor our connection with our military heritage by operating as efficiently, effectively, ethically and transparently as possible, (and) the Standards for Excellence objectively measure and validate those vital signs," Stahl said.
