Motorcycle ride raises money for veterans' programs

Jul. 26--This week, staff writer Laura Rysz talks with David Ragan about the Veterans Promise -- Promise Keepers Honoring Our Fallen Ride, which raises money for various veterans' programs.

Q: Who is the motorcycle ride open to?

A: The ride is open to all Promise Keepers, motorcycle riders and passenger cars, trucks, jeeps and military vehicles. You do not have to have a motorcycle to participate in the ride. The ride takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and includes breakfast. Riders cost $25 and passengers cost $15. Award Ceremony costs $10 for an adult entrance fee and $5 for childrens' entrance fee.

Q: What else will be on hand at the event?

A: Entertainment by Ron Schoonover10 a.m. to noon and DJ Donna Diva from 2 to 4 p.m. Event includes a cash bar, award ceremony for veterans, food concessions, more than $2,000 dollars in raffle basket items and more.

Q: How will proceeds be used?

A:The proceeds from this event will fund our programming needs such as small hardship grants; Wall of Heroes program; family support in times of loss and crisis; drug and alcohol addictions prevention; peer-to-peer referral services of VA assets and other veteran nonprofit organizations advocating on behalf of veterans and their families. The event also will support peer-to-peer family support, AA/NA and PTSD groups in our building.

Q: What is unique about this event?

A: This is the most unique motorcycle ride in our area that includes flag retrieval, flag raising, award ceremony and reading of the names from our Wall of Heroes.
