Mental Health Advance Directives

ADVANCE DIRECTIVE:

In 2009, the Mental Health Association of Maryland, in collaboration with the Mental Hygiene Administration, Community Behavioral Health, NAMI/MD, On Our Own and WRAP, and the Maryland Disability Law Center developed a new Advance Directive for Mental Health. Mental Health Advance Directives are legal documents, which describe a competent person’s specific instructions and preferences regarding future psychiatric treatment, in the event the person may not be competent to communicate treatment choices at that time. The following PowerPoint presentation provides background information on Advance Directives, including reasons why people with mental illnesses should have one, and offers resources on Advance Directives.
